Wing Chun (known as Wing Tsun, Ving Tsun, Wing Tzun or Wing Tjun) is an ancient self defence system designed for the war between Shaolin Monks and the empire of china 300 years ago. Wing Chun Martial Arts system is not created by one person, it has been developed by many Wing Chunners generation to generation. But according to history of modern Wing Chun, A nun called “Ng Moi” and a young girl called “Yim Wing Chun” were the iconic creators and the legend of Wing Chun.
What like martial art is Wing Chun…?
It is very unique and very much logical martial system coming from Kung Fu. The base of Wing Chun is coming from Physics and Maths. In the system, fighters use triangle stances and movement for the balance and keep their structure stabilize. In attacking, fighters use a direct path of attack to the Centre Line. (In A I I M A S Wing Chun, we called it Gravity Centre). Once they found their opponent’s opening or breaking point of his structure, rush into the opponent’s close range and continue the attack until his exhausted point.
What is the structure of Wing Chun…?
It has very short syllabus, but the syllabus is depend on what lineage you follow. In Ip man Wing Chun (Grand Master Ip Man’s Wing Chun is the most popular system on earth. It is popularized by super star Bruce Lee). Wing Chun has three forms with empty hand.
1. Siu Nim Tao
2. Chun Kiu
3. Biu je
And two weapons:
1. Bart Jum Dao (Eight Cutting Knives)
2. Look Dim Boon (six feet and half pole)
Apart from that, in the Training, a wing chun athlete have to practice and study some theories and techniques. To develop sensitivity, it has a marvelous hand movement called “Chi Sao”. To develop reflexing attack, Wing Chun use some drill movements (In A I I M A S Wing Chun, we use mind games too).
Wing Chun cannot learn by individually, you need a partner and you have to be a partner to other one. If you hope to practice Wing Chun, dedicate a time for it and learn it until finish the system.
